For my final project I decided to do an impressionistic painting. I used acrylic paints on a medium sized canvas. I chose bright colors and different blending techniques to get the eyes attention. I’m really happy with the way it turned out but I could definitely improve on my leafs :).
Abstract
In this project we had directions on what to do. We had to go in order and used different colors of oil pastels. This honestly wasn’t one of my favorite things we have done just because I learned that I do not like using oil pastels. One way to improve the project for me would be to use a different medium to complete it.
Impressionistic Painting
This has been my favorite project so far!!! To start off, we learned the different painting techniques. (wax resist, blend with one stroke, blending/modeling, sponge/paper towel, sgraffito, texture, pointillism, dry brush, blending/gradation, washes, splatter, and drips) For my painting, I chose to do a landscape. I learned a lot about using shadows and value. (see trees) My favorite part of my painting is the yellow flowers on the bottom. One thing I need to work on are the neatness and shade of the branches in the middle of the painting.
Alebrije
For this project, we made Alebrijes out of clay. We were told to pick 3 different animals. For mine, I chose to do frog eyes, butterfly wings, and a zebra body. The hardest part for me was making the mold but i really enjoyed painting.
Tessalation
For this project we played around with tessalations a little bit. We were asked to do one practice one, and a final one that’s fully shaded and made into an image. For my final, I drew fish with a blue patterned background maked to represent the ocean.
Magazine
In this project we were given a magazine piece and asked to use the elements of design to create a full image. The thing I struggled the most with is being creative enough to come up with the full image. I really like my final picture and I definitely learned some more about shading with colored pencils through this project.
Final Project 🌸🌻💐
For our last assignment this semester, Mrs. Feidler let us choose our on idea to create. I chose to paint flowers. The most challenging part for me was making them semi realistic, which basically just puts some maturity into them. I personally think I did a nice job. My painting is based on the saying “Beauty is found in simplicity”.
Dream House 🤩
I am currently working on something called “Dream House” in art. Each student in the class created their own blueprints for the interior. We also drew the outside using different perspectives. I chose to do 2 point persepective. The most difficult part for me was shading but I’m proud of how my house turned out.
Intaglio and Releif 🖤
Our last project that we did was print pressing. The two types that we learned were, intaglio and relief. We were asked to print 5 squares of each type of print. My results are below. As you can see, my design i made to print probably wasn’t the best route to go. I definitely learned a lot about print pressing and will for sure choose a different style next time.
Portraits 💛
For this project, our class has been practicing drawing faces. To start out, we got a blank paper and was asked to draw our best face (pre-test). After the pre-test, we drew a face as a class with Mrs. Feidler teaching us how to properly draw everything (practice with teacher). In between the practice with teacher sketch and the one we presented, we took a test that contained drawing the best face we could (mid test). Next, comes the picture that is supposed to look like us and contain 3 symbols. The symbols I chose are my cross necklace, the SICSC logo on my shirt, and a sun and waves on my shirt as well.
Book Binding 🌸
The first project in Art 1 was to create a sketch book out of fabric, card board, paper, and thread. To start out, I chose fabric and glued it down to make the cover. After that was semi dry, I used a yellow paper for the end page. For the inside of the book, I folded 25 pieces of paper to make five signatures, or a group of 5 papers, I then proceeded to use a thumb tack to put three holes in each signature. To get the pages, I sewed the signatures into the inside of the cover. I personally love my sketch book. I feel like it’s a very creative project and it was actually kind of easy. If you’re ever in need of a cute notebook, I definitely recommend making your own. :)
